UptimeRobot Mac Bar (“the app”) is a native macOS menu bar client for the UptimeRobot service. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and what choices you have. We have written it to be short and specific rather than generic.

 Summary

Data the app handles

UptimeRobot API key

You provide your UptimeRobot API key when you sign in. The key is stored locally in the macOS Keychain under the app’s bundle identifier (io.expanse.UptimeRobotMacBar or io.expanse.UptimeRobotMacBar.appstore). It is never transmitted to the developer or to any third party other than UptimeRobot itself, which is required to authenticate your API requests. Selecting “Sign Out” removes the key from the Keychain.

Monitor data

When the app refreshes, it makes HTTPS requests to https://api.uptimerobot.com/v2/getMonitors with your API key and receives a list of your monitors and their statuses. This data is held only in memory for display in the menu bar and is not persisted by the app beyond what macOS or UptimeRobot store on their own.

 Preferences

The app stores local preferences (such as polling interval, mute state, selected monitors, and “Launch at Login” choice) using standard macOS user defaults on your machine. These preferences are not transmitted anywhere.

Custom alert sound (optional)

If you place a custom audio file at ~/Library/Application Support/UptimeRobotMacBar/alert.wav (or .aiff/.mp3/.caf), the app reads it locally to play alerts. The file is not uploaded or shared.

Network connections

The app makes network connections only to the following endpoints:

Endpoint Purpose Builds
https://api.uptimerobot.com/v2/getMonitors Fetch your monitors and statuses All builds
https://expanse.io/uptimerobotmacbar/appcast.xml (and any release artifacts it references) Check for and download app updates via Sparkle Direct-distribution build only

The Mac App Store build does not include Sparkle and does not contact expanse.io. App updates for that build are delivered by Apple through the Mac App Store, subject to Apple’s privacy practices.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties.

 Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data from them.

Your choices

 Security

The API key is stored in the macOS Keychain, which encrypts secrets at rest using protections provided by macOS. All network requests use HTTPS. We do not have access to your key, your monitor data, or your Mac.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where reasonable, note the change in the app’s release notes or README. Continued use of the app after a change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
